The day started with a looooong queue at the Royal Mail Centre waiting to collect our biometric residence permits.
“It’s been said that the British love to queue so much, they’ll join a queue then ask what it’s for.”
After losing the morning we were off to meet up with a friend who kindly gave us a terrific tour of the Glasgow Southside.
It got off to a slow start with Eloise hijacking the tour and insisting it was playground time. Cannot blame her, we had been stuck on a plane for two days. She was well overdue for a run around.
We then had a nice stroll to the top of Queen’s Park where there is an awesome view of the city, a great spot to point out Glasgow’s landmarks.
Finally on day five the skies opened a wee bit and there was a light shower, I am sure there is plenty where that came from. We descended through the trees and down the streets past the old stone tenements which have been part of the fabric of Glasgow since the 19th century. We made our way to Pollokshaws road, famous for its food. This strip was packed with little trendy hipster cafes and bars. Appropriately the weather quickly swung around and the sun appeared again. This tour felt like a day spent in Melbourne.
After all the walking it was time for lunch, the blueberry cheesecake pancakes from Cafe Strange Bew came highly recommended and they did not disappoint.
Lachlan even made a friend.
Today was also the start of the Scottish Premier League, with 2000 to 20,000 fans allowed into stadiums. There certainly was a buzz about the city, with mixed reactions between the two Glasgow clubs Rangers and Celtic.
