Friday morning already, where did those days go? It was a wee tricky working from home this morning with the Oompa Loompa running about in the backyard. Eloise was concerned her playground was wet though so made Super Mum watch the garbage trucks around the front.
In the afternoon we stumbled across an interesting read on the BBC “Glasgow: The last best hope to fight climate change”. The piece was all about the history of Glasgow, focusing on the importance of shipbuilding and the River Clyde, modernisation and the greening of Glasgow.
The kids were then dressed in their Halloween costumes. Eloise in her spooky Minnie Mouse dress and Lachlan in his skeleton top. Eloise was delighted to hear we were catching the train and we were on our way to Mozza for dinner with friends.
Mozza is a trendy pizza bar in the West End. After not managing to nap all day and crashing after her high from the train ride, Eloise was exhausted. She was about to fall asleep on Super Mum’s lap, when all of a sudden, the gigantic pizzas started arriving. Eloise found another burst of energy and was more than happy to help out with the “piz”. Lachlan tried his best with some wild snatches at Dad’s plate, but even his bigger sister was telling him “no Lach, wait old”.
After the group struggled to polish off their pizzas we waddled up Byres road to the Botanic Gardens. This time it was looking very different to our last visit. Tonight, we were all heading to GlasGLOW. What better way for the city to kick off the global COP26 conference than with a high power light display. By this time there were lots of people out and about on a Friday night. Although, not as many people as we imagined. We were anticipating to see people from all over the world walking about looking as lost as us, trying to find dinner for their first night in Glasgow for COP26, perhaps it is still a little early?
We walked through the main gate and above the GlasGLOW sign was a big (or incredibly tiny) Earth with Australia facing us. Eloise was confused what Australia was.
We then made out way around the Botanic Gardens to see the impressive light, water, smoke and slime displays. On the short walk from Mozza, Eloise almost fell asleep, but as soon as she started seeing the lights she found more energy. Lachlan was kicking about and enjoyed the spectacle. The Halloween theme was based around an evil man taking over Glasgow and its pumpkin festival with his gloop. Detective Eloise (with help from Detective Murray) were on the case.
After Detective Eloise and Detective Murray had solved the case and saved Glasgow we all deserved a treat. Our first experience at the popular Loop and Scoop ice creamery. The ice cream and churros hit the spot and kept Eloise up a little bit longer, she was very happy “sharing” churros with Kirrie.
The second we walked out and made our way back to the train station both of the kids were fast asleep.
