Day 166: Backyard Olaf

January 8, 2022 by liamsophiefensom

Wednesday morning, Liam was back at work. He is almost working normal hours with the majority of Australia still on holidays. Sophie and the kids went on a long walk to one of Eloise’s favourite playgrounds.

Monday night was also the Twelfth Night. Whoops, we have still not taken down our Christmas tree.

Thursday night, Sophie was plugged into the Metaverse and noticed that our council put out a yellow snow warning. We were hopeful, fingers and toes crossed.

Yellow warning

This morning, we had our first heavy Glasgow snow shower. Providing an entertaining start to the day. Eloise was so excited she had to run out in the dark in her pyjamas.

We eventually convinced Eloise that she had to head back inside to have breakfast and get dressed properly.

After quickly scoffing down some breakfast it was then straight to the backyard to check out the fresh snow. A blank canvas for snow angels.

It was then onto Eloise’s favourite activity. “C’mon Dad, build snowman!!!!!!!!” A big improvement on our first snowman attempt.

Time for orange snow cones. Liam has been disappointed he cannot get Fro-Cos here. They are now available in the backyard.

Super slippery dip

Curious George guided us to the prime tobogganing areas. We decided we would head to Bellahouston Park and invited ourselves over to Nathan’s house again. Thank you Nathan 😉

Before we left Sophie and Eloise quickly whipped up some ANZAC biscuits to fill up our ANZAC biscuit tin, we could not arrive empty-handed.

It was then on with the winter knits and to the snowmobile! A careful drive to the Southside as “cars stuck on main roads as snow causes disruption across Scotland”. It snows enough here to cause problems but not enough for snow chains. Some people do have snow tyres. Sophie and the children were supposed to go out for a playdate this morning with one of Eloise’s friends. They postponed it though as Sophie saw cars struggling to get up our street due to the slippery snow.

Once we had picked up Nathan, Eloise was very excited about dragging her new sledge through Bellahouston Park.

Nathan led us to the Bellahouston Park tobogganing slopes, although it was partly melted by the time we got there in the afternoon. Looks like we need some more practice.

Eloise then dragged everyone to the train playground before we headed past another dry slope at Glasgow Ski & Snowboard Centre. It was not that dry this afternoon. We ended up back at Nathan’s where the ANZAC biscuits and jammy dodgers did not last long.

The snow fun must have worn out the children as all the stars in the sky aligned and both were sound asleep in bed before 20:00. It was a strangely relaxing night.
