Day 194: Fresh faces

February 5, 2022 by liamsophiefensom

Monday morning, Super Mum lucked out with “Tesco’s only double trolley”, a big win to start off the week. Eloise was enjoying teaching Lachlan how to use the portable item scanner.

“Me sit next to Lachlan, Mum”

They had to rush home because Eloise had a playdate with Caleb and Sarah. Friends from the netball circle. Eloise and Caleb are warming up to each other, she is great at sharing her toys. Caleb enjoyed wandering off by himself to check out the house, even popping his head into the office to make sure Liam was working hard.

The sandpit snowman making was cut short as someone had an accident and we had to rush home, whoopsies. The toilet training has actually been incredibly successful.

Bedtimes are slipping later as Dad has to run about the ground floor and make sure Eloise’s top five toys go to bed with her: small magnifying glass, big magnifying glass, torch, London bus and last but not least Foxie. If he gets the wrong toys it can end in tears.

Tuesday, a new secondee came over to meet our family and pick up her COVID-19 day two test. Good to see the reinforcements coming across. When she arrived the kids were busy in the kitchen, making cinnamon scrolls. Eloise is not the tidiest chef, sometimes Lachlan ends up with more than he bargained for.

Always good to stretch the legs in the evening and for Eloise to catch up with her neighbourhood creatures. It is definitely starting to get lighter which is good. This week Liam swapped out his vitamin D tablets with a daily vitamin D spray, pretty much eating the sun now.

Wednesday, we had to drop the car in for a software upgrade, because software makes the world spin around. Eloise’s busy social calendar continued with another playdate, another secondees partner and their 2.5-year-old who arrived a couple of months after we did. We are trying hard to find someone to boss Eloise around a bit. Again, she was very excited to show off her toys.

Quick dinner and early bed, Super Mum was off to Bounce Back to netball. Good timing, because the Old Firm was on. However, this resulted in a poor turnout at netball with the mums complaining about the Old Firm. Speaking to a colleague the rivalry is so tense at the moment between the two clubs they have banned Rangers and Celtic fans from attending Celtic Park and Ibrox Stadium respectively.

No idea what the COVID-19 situation is, ever since the Omicron wave has been and gone it is almost like everyone has moved on from it. The newspapers have been focussing their attention on the big topics in town as, “Colin the Caterpillar cake row crumbles”. We are team Colin! Someone special has a birthday around the corner, hopefully, he gets Colin.

Thursday morning, Liam was up at 05:00 to rush into the office for meetings. Sophie needed the car for Gymboree and it was too early for trains and buses. Luckily, Bill saved the day and swung past to pick Liam up. Thanks Bill. We owe you two now, at least.

Eloise spent the morning with her friends. They are all really starting to enjoy each other’s company which is nice to see.

Friday was the start of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games. It was only fitting that it started snowing again in Glasgow. There were big snowflakes falling but it was too warm for it to accumulate.

It was a much shorter day for Liam. We decided it was time we all joined the cult, to see what all the fuss was about. We signed up for a trial membership at Dobbies. They seem to be a popular thing across the UK. They are primarily a huge garden centre, but there is also a large shop component that sells almost anything, a supermarket, a large cafe and soft play. All combined into one confusing facility. Perhaps why Bunnings never took off here, “in for $705m, out for Ā£1: Wesfarmers abandons UK Bunnings disaster”.

Joining the Dobbies cult

We started with lunch, Eloise went for the Ā£5 kids meal and soft play deal. She had been so excited for soft play all morning “hurry up Dad, soft play now. Mum, Dad working, no soft play now”. After convincing Eloise to have a few bites of lunch she ran off to soft play. There was just one problem. Adults were not allowed on this soft play. It was looking like a bit of a disaster, there were lots of tears. Eloise was a wee scared going off by herself with the bigger kids running about. We cooled down with some more lunch, had a pep talk and she tiptoed in gradually exploring further before running back to us. Eloise spent most of her time pushing and hitting the bags at the entrance. We are not sure exactly what happened but with five minutes left she climbed up the stairs and was stuck at the top. She eventually made her way through and looked very happy with herself.

We dashed back through the snow to the car. Looked like it was going to be an indoor afternoon. Time for shopping, which was fairly uneventful, Lachlan lost another sock on his adventure which Eloise was very concerned about.

Back home to warm up, dinner and to put the feet up lol jks. The house had another power fault, with the extractor fan short-circuiting. This place seems to have been wired by a child. Luckily with a click of the fingers, modern-day Jesus arrived almost instantaneously. We are getting to know sparky Dave quite well. He was able to solve most of the problems. Well, Sophie has the television working, so is happy again.

Uh oh

Wow, I’m exhausted reading this blog and feeling just a little pleased I am in warm weather. The kids are growing so fast, with lots of Eloise shenanigans and Lachlan character.
