Our new coffee table was a big hit, so much so, Eloise turned it into her “tree house”. Lachlan was quite jealous of the treehouse but was chuffed when he finally got a shot too. This week Super Mum has done a stellar job entertaining the kids inside, it has been a wet week, plenty of summer showers.

The biggest issue with a summer shower is it makes it a bit tricky getting the kids to nap in the afternoons. Eloise absolutely loves the rain, lucky we are in the right place.

In Scotland, there are days where you just have to power on through the weather. It was on with the puddle suits and off to park.

After the summer shower passed through it turned into a nice day. Eloise was very excited to have her own “special little table” for dinner. She would take turns inviting us to her table for a chat.

After dinner, Eloise quickly assessed her crops to see if we were approaching harvest season.

Speaking of crops, our basil and oregano is flourishing. The kids enjoy checking them each morning to make sure they are getting stronger.
Monday night we managed to get the kids to bed early so we could tune in to watch Australia’s #1 physio working his magic from the Players Box at Wimbledon Centre Court. We were torn between supporting the Duck, an Aussie with a rad name and the fine print contract obligations to cheer on Andy Murray. In the end, Australia’s #1 physio and tennis were the real winners.

There was one major problem. A few seats away from Australia’s #1 physio was Lleyton Bloody Hewitt. Disappointingly, this meant that Australia’s #1 physio’s BBC air time was significantly reduced as the cameraman resorted to repeated close-ups of Lleyton Bloody Hewitt’s face or Andy Murray’s wife. This was the best we could manage. The highlight of the match was when the Duck was complaining that the roof needed to be closed and started walking towards his player box. Super Mum got very excited a Player Box close-up was about to occur but realised that Tom and Hazel probably don’t control the roof of Wimbledon Centre Court.

The Queen started her week “[arriving] in Edinburgh with members of her family for the start of a week of royal events in Scotland”.
Topic of the week in Scotland has been Scottish independence. “Scotland’s first minister has proposed 19 October 2023 as the date for another referendum on independence. Nicola Sturgeon said the question would be the same as in the last referendum in 2014: “Should Scotland be an independent country?” With a limited understanding of the structure of Scotland, we are a ‘no’. Admittedly BoJo’s Westminster are not helping. We might actually be able to vote if there is another referendum?
The middle part of the week was rained out, we have been pretty lucky since hopping about Edinburgh. All the rain we have missed has been coming down hard this week. Lachlan has been disappointed he has not been able to do his Grandma Nicholls morning run around the block. He is excited to see if she can keep up with him in a few months.
Australia House was keeping us up to speed that Australia’s new prime minister, Albanese, had to unfortunately meet BoJo.

In Glasgow on Wednesday “Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was spotted out and about in Glasgow ahead of [Wednesday’s] huge show at Bellahouston Park”. The Hella Mega Tour also included Fallout Boy. Tickets sold out pre-COVID-19, it had been a long time in the making and is now moving onto Paris. Nathan could not believe he was finally going along.
“Scotland’s first minister Nicola Sturgeon has met the Queen at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh”. Sadly, we did not get an invite.
Thursday morning was a bit of a backwards day, Eloise found it very funny. No morning Gymboree today, they had all been moved to the later class. Therefore it was a morning playground date with Emma.

Thursday was Eloise’s final Gymboree session. She has had such a great time learning new skills and importantly making friends along the way. We have decided it was time to move on. Have no fear, there will be plenty more Hoolies sessions.

Emma was supposed to go home for lunch before nursery but Eloise’s sweet teeth (multiple, if you missed the joke) and bad influence convinced her to hang around for a final Gymbo treat.

By Thursday evening the floods had passed and it was safe to leave the house again. Eloise was not taking any chances.

Thursday night Australia’s #1 physio was at it again on Wimbledon Court 1. This time massaging Draper, who was up against our beloved Aussie, De Minaur.

After a second successful night of stalking Australia’s #1 physio we had had enough of fast forwading through tennis points to watch the breaks between. Come to think about it, this was a bit like what I imagine watching Gogglebox is like.
Friday morning some of us had to get up early for work. Both the kids are bouncing back from colds and it has been a tricky couple of nights.

After lunch, it was time to enjoy the great outdoors again with a walk to Milngavie. Eloise was still playing it safe. Although she kept pleading for a new umbrella as her one is too wobbly, “Mum, me need new umbrella, umbrella wobbly, won’t stay still, at shops Mum, at shops me get new umbrella, this umbrella for Lachlan”. Good to see Eloise is taking full use of the older sibbling hand me down system.

After almost a couple of months, Lachlan finally managed to get a cheeky snuggle of his own bear. Jennine it has been a big hit with the kids.

This afternoon the weather was the best that it had been all week. How did we celebrate? Well Liam and Eloise wanted to go back to the bike shop.

For dinner, the kids were very happy with tortilla wraps and strips. Eloise enjoyed her wee-sized tortilla wraps.

Following up Green Day and Fall Out Boy, the Red Hot Chili Peppers were due to play at Bellahouston Park too. However, they “have called off their Glasgow concert hours before the show due to illness”. Poor Muzza Bizza.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 500001, 500002, 500003, .. “Covid infections jump by half a million in UK, says ONS”. In Scotland “estimates [suggest] about 288,200 people – one in 18 – had the virus in the week ending 24 June and is the highest figure since early April”. Get well soon Claire.
It was an early night for all before a big Scottish fun family day tomorrow.
Ps Tom, thank you for helping pad out a wet week.
