Day 455: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Irn-Bru

Today was day two of Eloise’s birthday celebrations. A good excuse to sneak across to Edinburgh and show the grandparents around. Eloise made sure to wear her new birthday jumper with her new birthday Frozen watch so we did not miss the train

Once we had surfaced in Edinburgh we were surrounded by runners racing in the Men’s and Women’s 10km. We quickly noticed how much cleaner the city was after the Fringe and bin collection strikes had ended.

We started at Costa’s, as these sorts of days tend to do, Lachlan had to work on his milk moustache. After Lachlan had made a sufficient mess on his new jumper, thanks Nali, we passed through ye Ol’ Town and the Royal Mile back to Edinburgh Castle. Lachlan was a bit upset in the Batmobile but Eloise was quick to cheer him up by holding his hand.

Making good use of their seven day Historic Scotland pass, with their fifth attraction. Lachlan was up to his usual funny buggers while having a great time.

From the castle we could see even more runners making their way around, this only further inspired Lachnado.

We managed to sneak past the Edinburgh Castle Guard into the National War Museum.

Lachlan was so excited to show the grandparents around, he barged head first straight into a glass door. Lucky he bounces.

Lachlan found a piper, which reminded us of home.

At the top of the castle, near the mega cannon, the grandparents were glad to find whisky tastings as a reward for climbing up to the summit of the castle.

We were about to make our way down when Eloise remembered her special can of Irn-Bru that Curious George had brought for her birthday yesterday. To be fair, can you think of a better place for a Bru? Super-I-cannot-wait-for-my-birthday-Mum was more than happy strutting her stuff in her new birthday puff jacket. Yes, you are all correct, it is not her birthday!

We passed down Diagon Alley and Eloise used her “MAGIC!” to conjure up some more Irn-Bru.

My golly, my gosh, the “MAGIC!” had worked. An Irn-Bru billboard appeared out of nowhere offering free cans.

On our way home, Lachlan pretended to eat his sausage roll while feeding his beloved pigeons.

As we got off the train the rain was getting heavier. There was little chance of Peppa Pig getting into the car though, she had been looking forward to the ride home all day that she had been promised. Luckily Super Mum always has a puddle suit on hand.

Eloise ended her birthday weekend in style

Tonight was the moment that all the Glaswegians had been waiting for, after much speculation and some healthy peer pressure from Jane yesterday, Grandma Nicholls was bouncing back to Netball with the like minded mummas. It was meant to be as the “Diamonds complete comeback to claim emotional Constellation Cup win over New Zealand”. It was very much needed after the Hancock saga. Unfortunately, there were no photos tonight so you will all have to live with the 2013 A Grade Eastern Hills Basketball Premiers!

Glad to see everyone keeping warm with their new birthday and almost birthday clobber! Grandma and Grandpa Nichols seem to have come prepared.
