Saturday morning we were almost late for Football Buzz as Eloise did not want to leave her frosted friend at the door. Eloise had won the morning’s argument and was wearing her new smart shoes, thanks Emma.

There were only five in the class today, probably too cold for the others to get out of bed, fair enough. Eloise has been amazing the past couple of weeks at Football Buzz, with the smaller class she was a bit more reserved. I think she might be right footed, she even told me “no Dad, just no, me no use that leg, that leg really tired” after I suggested she tried with her left.

When we got home, it was clear Lachlan was keeping his pace up from earlier in the week, we had to get out of the house to let him blow off some steam, the only problem was that all the playgrounds were frozen. The kids settled for some festive treats.

After lunch, the playgrounds had defrosted and the kids led the way, they had not forgotten. It was still chilly though so Lachlan had to ride no hands.

With the recent cold snap, we went to see how our ducks had been fairing. The poor ducks, there was not much water left for them to swim about, Kilmardinny Loch was freezing over.

Saturday night, the inevitable happened, football did not come home, well certainly not before Christmas as falsely advertised. “England’s World Cup campaign ended in disappointment as they went out despite a fine performance in the quarter-finals against France at Al Bayt Stadium. Harry Kane’s late penalty miss proved decisive after he had earlier equalled Wayne Rooney’s England record of 53 goals from the spot”. Eloise was happy with this, she was a bit worried that someone called ‘football’ was coming to our house.
This morning started with the family wrapping up Arran’s, as in the Isle of Arran, birthday present. The challenge was wrapping faster than Lachlan was unwrapping.

It was one of those beautiful crisp mornings, with blue skies near 0°C, not sure exactly what makes it beautiful, must be the blue skies, you take whatever wins you can this time of year. We made our way to Kelvingrove Park but did not quite get there as we bumped into Elfingrove. Supposedly the UK’s largest ice rink was in front of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

Elfingrove, another itison event like GlasGLOW is a wee controversial with some Glaswegians loving it and others thinking it is a total rip-off. The tickets were steep and we imagine that it is jammed packed in the afternoons. However, there are not too many people out for a stroll as early as we are. We managed to jump on the wee toddler ice rink for a few pounds. It was not the UK’s largest but large enough for Eloise to have some fun and Lachlan to experience his first ice rink. We were missing Hazel and her backwards ice skating, oh and Tom too.

It was a bit tricky for Lachlan, the boy with fast feet was a bit thrown having near zero traction. It did not help that he was shorter than the penguin, we think it scared him.

Lachie traded his penguin in for a whale which worked much better.

After lunch, Eloise was off to Arran’s and her first 4th birthday party at soft play. She was glad her besties Emma and Juju were also there and would not go anywhere without them by her side.

In the afternoon we went for a stroll along the Clyde which was lovely until we bumped into the Christmas Grinch. He was actually very friendly but the kids did not respond well and scared the Grinch back inside his lair.

The kids were not hanging around and hid inside the Riverside Museum.

The words on the streets are that the wee Glasgow subway is an experience, we still need to check it out, supposedly it has hardly changed over the years. At least the subway map is much easier to follow than the London Underground.

Lachlan had requested his favourite for dinner, Eloise was still not letting her trophy out of sight.

[…] and Lachlan had a fun session, we think Lachlan would like to come back. Eloise made sure that he waved goodbye to their beloved bear, although you don’t need to encourage Lachlan to wave. We then ice-skated back to the […]
