Our last night in Edinburgh was a wee tricky with Eloise waking up because her legs were sore and she needed a midnight shower, perhaps a bit of sunburn, or biscuit crumbs in her bed? After her shower, she would not go back to sleep without wearing her backpack in bed. Weird child. Luckily, Lachlan managed to sleep through the hullabaloo. Monday morning we mistakenly thought we had slept in. Until we realised the UK clocks shifted an hour forward yesterday.

We packed our bags and headed out for breakfast before a final walk around ye Ol’ Town. Edinburgh is so pretty, you don’t even need to do anything in the city. It is quite fascinating just walking around. We picked up an early birthday present for Lachlan before waving goodbye to the piper.

There are no playgrounds in ye Ol’ Town. Well not anymore at least. The best we could offer Eloise was more buttons in the National Museum of Scotland, “yesss please” was her answer. We are still amazed that these experiences are free, the kids here are spoilt. Dad and Lachlan headed up to The Typewriter Revolution temporary exhibition for a quick look. Lachlan was a big hit with the staff there.

Da boyz followed their ears down to find Eloise and the buttons. Lachlan thought that buttons were so two days ago and befriended a robot.

This is a good time to explain the origin of Lachlan’s nickname, as we have received a few enquires. Plan A was to give birth to Lachlan in Glasgow, as we were due to travel across in February 2021. However, Plan As became extinct during the pandemic and he was born an Aussie. The name Lachlan is Scottish and pronounced Lacklan in Scotland. We did not set out to choose a Scottish name but when we thought about it, it was a happy bonus. Lachlan does not like to stay still and prefers bouncing off the walls and ceilings. He rips through UK towns terrorising residents like a tornado. For those of you that have seen the blockbuster Sharknado movie series. It is a glimpse into what our family lives have become. We love you Lachnado!

It was then back on the train to Glasgow, a 50-minute ride. Much quicker than the train into Edinburgh. Eloise reflected on her exciting long long weekend in Edinburgh. We all had so much fun. Three full days was a good length.

We arrived in Glasgow and the girls were ready for more shopping. Super Mum picked up another top but Dad was the real winner this time. We wandered past the Glasgow LEGO store and Liam noticed the LEGO Globe. Eloise and Lachlan are growing up on the other side of the world, they do not even know where Australia is. What a great tool to show them, if you think about it this is really a present for the whole family. Plus “Investing in Lego [is] more lucrative than gold… Market for secondhand Lego also rises at a better rate annually than stocks, bonds, stamps, art and wine”. It would be silly not to get it really. Sold!

We caught the train home in the afternoon. When we arrived there was another sign that spring has sprung, with our lovely brown dead-looking hedge starting to turn.

Eloise was straight upstairs to tell her babies about her holiday. When we bought The Globe we were given two small Easter-themed sets, probably because Dad spends too much on LEGO. Eloise was very excited to rip into them, although they were a bit tricky for her. They were good for her to practice her colours. We had to put them together quickly while Lachnado was downstairs.

Lachnado came upstairs to join the action so the building moved to the bed. Super Mum was called in to help speed it up.

We did not quite get to the end, Eloise got distracted talking to Koala and Kangaroo, so we quickly hid the sets out of Lachnado’s reach until they are both a bit older.

That’s probably enough on LEGO for now. Throughout the week, Super Mum had been looking for more play equipment for Eloise. Dad was kicked out of the house and sent off to collect. Eloise was so excited when she saw the wee shop. However, it was late so she could not play with it yet. She went straight to sleep in record time knowing what tomorrow brought.

Tuesday morning, Super Mum was woken up by “Mum, shop, mum, shop, now, clean shop, pleaseeeee”. Someone had not forgotten. Before Eloise could play shops, she had to buy items to sell at her shop. ASDA had the perfect groceries and wee basket.

It had been a while few days since Eloise had fed her beloved ducks.

On Tuesday, “Adelaide [was] rattled by a small earthquake for the second time this month”.

Wednesday morning, it looked like the great weather was continuing. It had been sunny all morning and the kids had enjoyed a nice walk to Bookbugs at midday. In the afternoon we all headed to the playground to tire out the kids. Liam had been completely fooled by the sun and set off wearing shorts, it was cool.

As we were walking home it started to snow, sunny snow, it was bizarre. We were not expecting that. Eloise got her hopes up for another snowman.

For dinner, Lachlan tried some chilli con carne which made him produce some funny facial expressions. A big step up from puree pouches. He was a happy boy.

The snow got a wee thicker during dinner. Eloise had to run outside to check it out. Sadly it was still too warm for Olaf to visit again.
Thursday morning, Gymboree was Shipbuilding themed. Eloise was quick to grab a hammer and start building with Emma.

It was mostly another outside day. We have been lapping up as much of the sun as we can. Turns out that “Scotland has provisionally seen its sunniest March on record, according to the Met Office whose records go back to 1919”.

There was also the news that “DOWN UNDER & OUT Celtic vs Rangers Australia Old Firm derby OFF as Ibrox club pull out of Sydney Cup”.

This morning after Lachnado had finished his babyccino and Dad was finally finished with meetings Eloise wanted to show off her new tricks at the playground. She made sure that she was not going to get caught in the snow for a third time this week and made Super Mum carry an umbrella over Her Royal Highness.

It was windy, Lachnado’s toupee was struggling to hold on.

Thanks for another great blog entry. we love Edinburgh too– but I have not seen Glasgow. love the lego Globe!!
