We chucked the final items and kids into the car and started the trip home. Sadly, Eloise had lost her beloved iPod which she uses as a camera and a phone to ring Becca hourly to ensure she is behaving. Anyone with a first-generation blue iPod mini, please feel free to ship it her way.
We have all had such an amazing adventure. It was actually our first holiday as a family of four, excluding that minor trip halfway around the world.
It was great to show Eloise and Lachlan around the UK. Even over the past couple of weeks, Eloise has become a lot more confident and excited to try new things. Lachlan is grabbing everything he can and looks like he wants to start solids shortly.
We have developed an unhealthy addiction to McMuffin meals, we were sure one more was not going to hurt. Lachlan was happy in the car, he must be getting used to road trips.

As we drove north the skies were getting darker and darker. There was actually a period of torrential rain where our little Spanish Seat windscreen wipers were struggling to keep up. However, by the time we stopped on the border at Gretna Green for lunch, it was sunny. Sunny in the sense that it was not pouring. Eloise was happy that she was back in the land of the puddles to the amusement of everybody in the Outlet Village.

Liam was not feeling too flash, so Sophie jumped into the driver’s seat to drive us across Scotland and complete the glory leg home.

If we had missed the big blue sign earlier, it would still have been obvious we were now in Scotland because all of a sudden there were wind turbines everywhere.

We were all exhausted by the time we got home, literally unpacked the car and hit the hay.
On our adventure, Sophie’s favourite place was the Cotswolds, Liam loved punting in Oxford, Eloise loved any form of public transport and Lachlan loved the steam train. We only drove 1000 odd miles, but it is incredible how much there is to see in such a relatively small place and how you can drive only a few hours and the accents and cultures are vastly different.
A big thank you to Caroline for showing us around and entertaining Eloise. She is looking forward to you visiting. It was great to see Hazel and Tom again. Also best of luck Tim, we are sure we will see you again shortly.
