Welcome to ‘October Week’, which is what they call the school midterm holidays. This meant that none of our normal activities were running and we had to find other ways to entertain ourselves.
The health visitor (Scottish CAFHS) came to see the kids. Lachlan managed to get all his 6-month milestones ticked off while rolling away in the process. He got a newborn Bookbug bag with some new books that Eloise enjoyed reading to him, although some of the wording is a bit odd. They also dropped off a weaning pack for him which included a sippy cup and this soon became his favourite toy. Eloise was also meeting all her milestones and got the toddler bag, her selfie game is improving rapidly. We also learnt that the kids need daily Vitamin D drops because there is not enough sun.

Lachlan was a very happy boy this week because he finally got to start solids. Yummy baby rice cereal was on the menu. He seemed to love it and ate way more than we expected, taking after Dad. Lachlan was looking like he was having lots of fun so Eloise had to join in. She has now taken it upon herself to be in charge of feeding Lachlan. Super Mum is hoping having something heavier in his belly will help him sleep longer at night… but so far no luck.

Eloise has not been happy that Dad is busy working “no work, no work”. Luckily he is usually off by mid-afternoon to play football shirt shops, her new favourite game. She is confident with payWave. We will surely regret this in the future when she is older, although we will probably all be mining bitcoin from another planet by then.

With Eloise’s birthday around the corner, it was time to test out a cake recipe. As usual, Eloise loved licking the beaters and bowls. Of course, eating the cake too. Mum had to hide it so she would stop asking for more. The recipe was deemed a success and will be made next week. We are hoping Super Mum can recreate the cake she found on the internet machine.

This week Eloise had a new favourite toy, Danny the dinosaur. She has been feeding it and dragging it about the house with her. When it was time to feed the ducks, Danny had to come too. She even made sure to keep him away from the scary swans. She must really be missing Delilah.

Thursday was a long tricky day for all, resulting in a pizza dinner. From what we have heard Domino’s pizza is popular here, it was actually tasty. A big improvement on Aussie Domino’s. All pizzas in the UK are served with a variety of dipping sauces for eating your crusts. We have become big fans of this. Definitely, something Australia should adopt

It was a stunning day today, so after lunch, we were all jumped in the car and headed to the ‘Faerie Trail’ at Loch Lomond. With Halloween around the corner, it was Halloween themed and converted into the ‘scary Faerie’. Although on the pricey side for some lacklustre decorations Eloise and Lachlan were having a fantastic afternoon. Dad perhaps went a bit far with the role-playing and Eloise became a wee concerned with all the spider webs.

After we made it to the end of the most difficult “pram-friendly” walk we have ever done we arrived at the pumpkin patch, a Halloween treat. Eloise loved running about lifting and kicking the pumpkins.

It was getting cold so we dashed home to our delicious slow-cooked Pork and Apple Orzotto, it did not last long in front of Eloise. Lachlan licked the spoon and wanted more.

In the Glaswegian news, everything is starting to go a little COP26 crazy. Probably lucky we are not living in the heart of the city. It is still a fortnight away but there has been plenty of protests, rail disruption and we are sure most of the city will be locked down as all the world leaders arrive for Eloise’s birthday. Short term rentals and Airbandbs are going through the roof, costing £3,600 a night, so the government has brought in a couple of cruise ships to help accommodate Putin (if he comes) and friends. Residents have been encouraged to open their homes. ScoMo, when you read this, you are more than welcome to squeeze into Lachlan’s wee room, perhaps behind the changing table.
